Trip chapter 01
Hamilton to Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu
The opening drive toward a family rendezvous in Halifax, with just Tilly and me and a practical overnight in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

My brother, aunt and cousin were flying from Scotland to Halifax, so the destination for this Eastern Canada trip was set by a family rendezvous. The first part of the journey, though, belonged to just Tilly and me.
Friday on the road
We left Hamilton on Friday, July 3, heading into Québec. Rather than push all the way east in one day, I planned a first overnight in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

A practical Quality Inn overnight
We stayed at the Quality Inn on Rue Gadbois. Check-in was at 3 p.m., checkout was at 11 a.m., and the pet fee during our stay was $30 for the night.
The hotel sits in a mostly commercial area. There were a couple of restaurants nearby, but I did not visit them and could not confirm whether their outdoor spaces welcomed dogs.
Quality Inn Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu
A practical dog-friendly overnight in a commercial area, with a $30 pet fee and limited green space immediately around the hotel.

There was not much green space immediately around the hotel, but a reasonable strip of greenery ran behind the surrounding buildings and worked for walking Tilly. Across the street, I could see a park where several people were walking dogs, although we did not explore it ourselves.
