Trip chapter 01
Hamilton to Gananoque
The first short leg of Tilly's first Eastern Canada trip, with a comfortable Gananoque hotel, town walks and a welcoming café patio.

In 2025 we started a new route: Eastern Canada, and Tilly's first time heading toward the Maritimes. The first stop was only a few hours from home in Gananoque, which made it a gentle first day rather than a marathon.

A hotel room that worked for dog logistics
We stayed at Comfort Inn & Suites Thousand Islands Harbour District on Main Street. There was a $25 per night pet charge during our stay, and the hotel gave us a small goody bag with a couple of treats and some poop bags for Tilly.
The best practical detail was the room. We were given a ground-floor room with a sliding door, which made getting Tilly in and out much easier than repeated hallway trips.

Gananoque was a cute little town, and we spent a few hours exploring it on foot. Confederation Park at 10 King Street E sat across from the hotel, with a large fountain and an easy first walk. A little farther down, Joel Stone Heritage Park at 125 Water Street took us along the Saint Lawrence River waterfront.

We ate at Pistachio Café on King Street East, and the food was really quite nice: a good meal, a cold beer and dessert to top it off. Tilly was brought water, and the staff made a fuss over her, which she loved.
