A dog exploring Gananoque

The dog-friendly guide to

Gananoque

A cute Thousand Islands town with an easy hotel, park walks and a welcoming café patio.

Field notes August 2026

A practical dog-friendly guide to the Gananoque hotel, named park walks and café patio we used at the start of the 2025 Eastern Canada trip.

Gananoque was the first stop of Tilly's first trip toward the Maritimes: only a few hours from home, but enough distance to make the road trip feel properly underway.

The town worked well on foot, with Confederation Park and its fountain across from the hotel, Joel Stone Heritage Park down by the Saint Lawrence River and a café patio where the staff made a fuss over Tilly.

Ground-floor roomThe Comfort Inn gave us a ground-floor room with a sliding door, which made dog logistics easy.
Confederation ParkConfederation Park sat across from the hotel, with an easy path around the fountain.
Waterfront walkJoel Stone Heritage Park was a short walk farther down by the Saint Lawrence River.
Welcoming patioPistachio Café brought Tilly water and gave her plenty of attention.
