A dog exploring Sydney

The dog-friendly guide to

Sydney

Cape Breton's boardwalk home from home.

Field notes August 2026

Our practical Sydney notes: a practical Comfort Inn base, a lovely waterfront boardwalk with the SYDNEY sign and the Big Fiddle, and tacos on the esplanade.

Sydney became our Cape Breton base when fire risk closed the Cabot Trail for our visit, and it turned out to be a great trade.

The Comfort Inn had green space for Tilly and was a short walk from the waterfront boardwalk, which gave us sunset views of a cruise ship, the SYDNEY sign and the Big Fiddle — plus tacos on the esplanade.

Lovely boardwalkThe waterfront boardwalk was lovely, with cruise-ship views at sunset.
SYDNEY sign photosThe waterfront sign made a great photo op with Tilly.
