A dog exploring Pictou

The dog-friendly guide to

Pictou

A really cool little town on the Northumberland shore.

Field notes August 2026

Our practical Pictou notes: the Hector Heritage Quay wharf, colourful waterfront buildings, patios where dogs were sitting, and the Trans Canada Trail out towards Browns Point.

Pictou is a really cool little town to wander around, and we stopped there on the drive from Sydney to Moncton.

The wharf, the Hector Heritage Quay and the Trans Canada Trail out towards Browns Point made an easy walk with Tilly, and we spotted a couple of patios where dogs were sitting.

Waterfront wanderThe Hector Heritage Quay wharf and giant chair make an easy loop.
Dog-sitting patiosDogs were sitting on patios at Harbour House Ales & Spirits and the Nook and Cranny.
Trans Canada TrailThe trail leads out from downtown towards Browns Point.
